denture repairs

What this treatment is

Repaired properly, usually the same day

Most repairs fall into three kinds: a denture snapped in two, a tooth or clasp that has come away, and a base that no longer fits and rubs. We bond the acrylic back together with a proper laboratory repair rather than a surface patch, replace missing teeth from stock shades, and ease or reline the fitting surface where it is causing sore spots. Bring the pieces with you, including any small fragments.

  • Same-day turnaround on simple breaks — most clean fractures and single teeth are repaired while you wait.
  • A laboratory-grade bond — the acrylic is rejoined and reinforced, not patched with glue that will fail.
  • Fit checked, not just the break — we ease sore spots and check the bite before you leave, so it is comfortable to wear.

Signs you need it

Come in if any of these sound familiar

Do not try to glue a denture at home. Household adhesives are not safe in the mouth and they make a proper repair much harder.

Snapped in two

The denture has broken cleanly in half, usually along the midline. Keep both halves.

A tooth has come off

A front or back tooth has detached from the acrylic and the gap shows when you speak.

A broken clasp

A metal clasp has bent or snapped, so the denture no longer grips the tooth beside it.

Rubbing or sore spots

The edge is digging in and leaving an ulcer, often after recent gum shrinkage.

It no longer stays in

It lifts when you eat or talk, which usually means the fit needs easing or relining.

A crack across the base

A hairline crack that will become a full break if it is left, so bring it in early.

Questions

Before you come in

Not sure if it can be repaired? Call the practice, describe the break, and we will tell you what to expect.

Can I glue it myself first?

Please do not. Superglue and household adhesives are not safe in the mouth, they discolour the acrylic and they often make a clean repair impossible, which turns a small job into a remake.

How long will I be without my denture?

For a straightforward break, usually under an hour while you wait. Repairs that need laboratory work are normally back within one to two working days.

Will the repair be visible?

A properly bonded joint is barely noticeable and sits behind the teeth where possible. Replacement teeth are matched to the shade of the existing ones.

Why did it break in the first place?

Usually a drop, or an uneven bite that stresses one part of the acrylic. If the fit has changed as the gums have shrunk, the denture flexes and cracks, which is why we check the fit as well as the break.

Do I need to bring anything?

Bring the denture and every fragment, even the small ones, in a container or sealed bag. If you have a spare denture, bring that too.
